The Casa di Garavicchio is a hillside country retreat on a secluded family estate in the countryside of southern Tuscany. The house, a spacious converted stable from the 1930s, blends into the rolling Tuscan landscape with extensive views of the medieval town of Capalbio and the Tyrrhenian Sea beyond. Surrounding the house is a fragrant garden of lavender, pomegranate trees, jasmine and roses. Located on the family property is the famous Niki de Saint Phalle sculpture garden. The beach is only six kilometers from the house.
To reach the house one drives up a winding dirt road to the private driveway and parking area of the Casa di Garavicchio. The main house is to one side of a stone courtyard with built-in benches and a shaded orchard immersed in lavender bushes. Across the courtyard from the main house are two small guest houses connected by a covered patio area. There are many covered outdoor areas where one can sit and enjoy the views in all weather.
The main house is approximately 200 square metres and has three double bedrooms, each with its own full bathroom (two baths, one shower). The large, open kitchen area is fully equipped (large modern gas cooker) and has a dining/living area with a table that seats eight, as well as sofas, Cable TV and a fireplace. In a separate dining room, a few steps down from the kitchen, there is a large table (seats 10) made of bronze by artist Sandro Chia. Here diners can enjoy a view of the rolling hills and the distant sea, or open the French doors onto an outdoor patio area.
The kitchen area also opens onto a large, covered veranda, a lovely spot for relaxing or dining outdoors. Through the kitchen is a large living room with a fireplace and two large glass doors opening onto another patio with lovely views of the surrounding countryside. The bedrooms and respective bathrooms are all located off the living room and each has a garden view. The house is elegantly decorated and very comfortable. The owner’s book and art collections add a personal and artistic feel.
Each of the two guesthouses has an independent entrance. The first has a large double bedroom and full bathroom with a decor matching that of the main house. The second has a double bedroom looking onto the courtyard and a bathroom (shower) with laundry area.
