In total seclusion, nestled in the hills in the midst of its own substantial garden and olive grove yet just a short drive from Porto Ercole stands Il Podere. This Tuscan farmhouse has been beautifully restored by its artistic owner, who has created a comfortable, informal and yet very stylish home.
Angeletta, the housekeeper, has been a faithful retainer working for the owner the best part of 20 years. She runs the house with great efficiency comig six days per week for five hours – she is also an excellent cook and many clients her traditional delicious Tuscan dishes.
The house is charming – unpretentious yet having a certain shabby chic style reflecting the colourful character of its artistic owner. Most comfortably furnished inside as well as on its terraces and round the pool area, Il Podere makes an ideal choice for a family holiday with a large area of terracing, landscaped garden and lawns, with the swimming pool set away from the house.
Many guests may like to spend their days by the pool relaxing, reading and soaking up the atmosphere. However, for the more adventurous, the modern Cala Galera marina is very close and there one can hire a boat for the day to take you to the islands of Giglio and Giannutri.
In the evening, having all the bars, restaurants and shops of the picturesque Porto Ercole so close at hand is a real bonus. However, for those who wish to venture further afield, there are some excellent restaurants in Orbetello or in the nearby medieval hilltop villages of Capalbio, Magliano in Toscana or Manciano.
