Torre Tagliata was built on top of a Roman well in the early 13th century as a watchtower for the Spanish troops that occupied this part of Tuscany. It is a privately owned hamlet which comprises three separate homes, one being the tower and the other two farmhouses.
The famous Italian composer, Giacomo Puccini, acquired this property in the late 1800s and resided here for many years, enjoying the peace and quiet while composing some of his most famous operas, one of which is the "Turandot".
The hamlet is constructed directly on the Feniglia beach on the Ansedonia side, where one can visit the renowned "Spacco della regina", or "Queen's Slice", which was carved out by the Etruscans who inhabited the town of Cosa on the hilltop to enable their queen to escape safely by sea in the event of attack. The actual owners, a prominent Florentine-Roman family, acquired this property in the early 1900s from Puccini himself and have lovingly maintained it since then while continuing to use it year round.
Entirely decorated with family antiques, the Villa Rossa farmhouse has been recently renovated and redecorated to make it more comfortable and appealing for even the most discerning guest.
Villa Rosa is a two storey stone and stucco building, which was built in the 1800s to accommodate the police which used this tower's particular position for its home base. On the ground level there are the living and dining rooms, a large kitchen with all modern amenities, a laundry room, and a double guest room with ensuite bathroom.
Upstairs on the second level there is the master bedroom with a queen bed, three double bedrooms all with single beds and 3 bathrooms, one of which is ensuite to a double bedroom.
Located near the Saturnia spa, Capalbio, and all of the Etruscan main sights, such as Tarquinia, this property is in the perfect position for those who desire to explore the surrounding countryside or even make a day trip to Florence or Siena, both of which are easily accessible by car in a 1-2 hour drive.
Being close to Orbetello, where there is a new 18 hole golf course, and Capalbio where one can window shop, visit the old town, take in a movie, or dine at one of the many excellent restaurants in the area, the Torre Tagliata offers something for everybody and is an ideal choice for an enjoyable family holiday.
