La Ferriera is a charming renovated and refurbished outbuilding/barn standing at the end of an impressive avenue of ancient umbrella pine trees and magnificent gardens in the grounds of an important villa.
It is a veritable Alladin's cave, filled with fascinating antiques collected during the many years the owner lived abroad as well as containing a significant library of interesting books, with a particular focus on gardening - the owner's great love.
Ferriera is the Italian word for foundry, and this was originally the site of one of the largest ironworks in Italy. When the owner bought it some 30 years ago, it had been abandoned for two decades. Since then the buildings have been sympathetically restored and the neglected land transformed into a famous, magical garden, which is open to the public.
